The Artistic Journey
Just as a child's understanding of the world deepens with each passing month, so too does each illustration grow in richness and detail. Early pages begin with simple lines and open space. By year's end, your child's world is rendered in full color.

The Book
Pencil sketches in the early months. Watercolor washes as the year unfolds. By the final pages, a fully realized portrait — luminous and personal. And just as no two children grow quite the same way, no two books are ever alike: yours is shaped entirely by your child's own year, one of a kind from cover to cover.

How It Works
Simple to order, beautifully made. Every book begins with your photographs and ends with something you'll always want close.
Select the Keepsake, Heirloom, or Legacy edition — 15, 22, or 30 illustrations. Each is hand-bound in Italy, blending centuries of traditional bookbinding with state-of-the-art printing on handmade Amalfi cotton paper.
Upload your favorite photographs from your child's first year — one or two per month, plus a handful of special moments. Our image guide makes it easy to know exactly what to send.
Your photographs are transformed into a sequence of original illustrations that grow in richness and detail as your child grows — from simple line drawings in the early months to full-color spreads by year's end. Each one is created with AI-assisted artistry and is a unique interpretation of your photos, never an exact copy — so no two books are ever alike.
Your illustrations are printed using digital offset technology on handmade Amalfi cotton paper — pure cotton rag with natural deckled edges, crafted in Italy since the Renaissance. The cover is hand-wrapped and finished by artisans, then sealed in an eco-friendly recycled cardboard box. Because every book is finished by hand, only a limited number leave our atelier each month — so yours is never rushed. Delivered in 4–6 weeks.
The Materials
We source only archival-grade materials — the kind used by museums and libraries. Your book will not yellow, crack, or fade. The paper, the inks, the binding — all archival grade, built to look as good in thirty years as the day it arrives.

Every page is printed on handmade cotton paper from the historic mills of Amalfi, Italy — crafted by hand using a medieval family tradition passed down for centuries. Pure cotton rag paper, no chemicals, no whitening agents. The natural deckled edges are unique to each sheet, giving every book an unrepeatable character.

The Keepsake is wrapped in Cloud leatherette — an exceptionally smooth, soft-touch material with a polymeric coating that is durable, eco-friendly, and 100% recyclable. The Heirloom and Legacy editions offer your choice of Cloud leatherette or genuine Italian leather: Distressed full-grain calfskin with an aniline finish, or Sequoia top-grain leather hand-finished to a warm vintage effect. All covers are sewn, not glued, and personalized with your choice of silver or gold foil debossing.

Every illustration is printed using digital offset technology by our Italian printing partner — a world-class studio founded in 1982 and recognized for color management that no other lab can match on cotton paper. The only professional printing lab in the world able to deliver archival accuracy and longevity on Amalfi cotton paper.

Beautifully patterned endpapers in your choice of three colorways, printed on acid-free text-weight stock. The interior opens with a bookplate page for a personal inscription — your words, for all the years ahead.

Every book is assembled by hand in an atelier in northern Italy — a tradition rooted in the craft of Renaissance bookbinders. The cover is hand-wrapped around the boards, sewn and finished with care. The result is a book you can feel as much as read — naturally textured surfaces, a cover that softens with time, and a spine built to open flat for a lifetime without cracking.

Your book arrives in an elegant recycled cardboard box in natural havana, finished inside with a vellum wrap sealed with our studio seal. No plastic. No waste. Ready to give the moment it arrives at your door.
A Gift Worth Giving
A First Light storybook isn't only for parents to make — it's one of the most meaningful gifts you can give a new family. Commission it for your own child, or surprise your partner, the new parents, or the grandparents in your life with an heirloom they'll keep for generations.
The perfect gift for new parents — a beautifully bound record of their baby's first year that they'll return to long after the photos disappear into a phone.
Create it now and place it in their hands one day. A first-birthday keepsake that becomes their own story to keep — and, in time, to share with a family of their own.
A heartfelt gift between generations. Grandparents love giving it as a milestone present — and it's a thoughtful way to celebrate the grandparents who treasure every photo.
A gift unlike anything else they'll open. Aunts, uncles, and godparents can commission a book as a surprise — and we'll keep it between us right up until it arrives.
Commission
Each book is made entirely to order. Commission yours, and we begin crafting your illustrations within three business days.
Commission Your Book →Editions
Every edition is hand-bound in Italy on archival Amalfi cotton paper, made to endure for generations. Editions differ in scope — the number of illustrations and your cover material — never in quality or craftsmanship.
Every book is made to order and entirely one of a kind. We keep our commissions few, so each receives an artisan's full attention. You confirm your photos and details at checkout, then our bookmakers craft it by hand — the subtle variations are part of the art.
Good to know
Before you know it, the tiny details start to blur — the exact way they looked at three months, at six, at nine. This book holds all of it: every month, every milestone, made from your own photographs and kept somewhere you'll actually look.
